Measurements take place
Wind farm project in East Tyrol is now being examined
While a citizens' initiative continues to try and prevent the wind turbines, the project operator, Elektrowerk Assling (EWA), is now having the plant inspected and is already carrying out the first wind measurements.
Things are getting serious around the Compedal high alpine pasture in Assling at around 2200 meters above sea level. As reported, a citizens' initiative has been trying to prevent the seven wind turbines planned by EWA since the plans emerged last year. They are organizing an event on 12 April to explain the consequences. The EWA and ECOwind are doing the same - they want to provide information about the project and discuss wind power on April 7.
If everything goes according to plan, the wind farm could even go into operation as early as 2030. According to EWA, well-developed forest roads in the area also speak in favor of this. However, the project must first undergo an environmental impact assessment, as EWA CEO Harald Stocker explains: "This ensures that projects are implemented in an environmentally and socially responsible manner."
Wind measurement throughout the year
In addition to this, a one-year wind measurement is also being carried out this year to record wind conditions in all seasons. An 80-metre-high measuring mast records wind speed and direction. "Surveys carried out by the state in advance have shown that the Compedal site is very suitable for a wind farm project," explains Stocker.
This is confirmed by the wind energy potential study carried out by the state. "Wind power produces two thirds of electricity in the winter months and will become increasingly important in the future," Stocker concludes.
