"Big asshole"
Wilson: fierce accusations against Sacha Baron Cohen
Rebel Wilson (44) publishes her memoirs and teaches a Hollywood colleague the meaning of fear. She dedicates an entire chapter to "Borat" star Sacha Baron Cohen (52) - and makes serious accusations.
While fans of Rebel Wilson are probably already looking forward to April 2, 2024, one person is probably looking forward to the day with trepidation. "Rebel Rising", the autobiography of the actress and comedian, who says she wants to dedicate a chapter to a "huge asshole": Sacha Baron Cohen.
Wilson does not want to be silenced
The Australian-born actress obviously wanted to make a statement by revealing his name. After she had previously announced that she wanted to write about a difficult work experience with an unnamed former co-star, among other things, he seemed to have threatened her with legal action.
"I will not be silenced by expensive lawyers or PR crisis managers. The 'asshole' I talk about in one chapter of my book is: Sacha Baron Cohen," she wrote in her Instagram story on Sunday.
Cohen responds to the accusations
In a statement from his spokesperson, he defended himself against the serious accusations made by his colleague. "While we recognize the importance of speaking out, these demonstrably false allegations are directly refuted by extensive detailed evidence, including contemporaneous documents, footage and eyewitness accounts from people who were present before, during and after the production of 'The Spy and His Brother'," a spokesperson for the 52-year-old told TMZ on Monday.
"I will not be threatened"
However, Rebel Wilson did not take this lying down. "Thank you to everyone who has sent me wonderful messages of support over the past few days, and to those who have shared their own stories with this asshole!" she made her dislike of Sacha Baron Cohen clear once again via Instagram and clarified: "Don't worry, I won't let this guy bully or threaten me! I'm working hard behind the scenes to make sure my book gets published!"
Harassment on the set of "The Spy and His Brother"
Wilson and Cohen starred together in the 2016 comedy "The Spy and His Brother", which turned out to be a flop. While the "Borat" star played soccer hooligan Norman "Nobby" Grimsby, who becomes an elite spy, Rebel Wilson played the love of his life, Dawn. Hollywood stars such as Mark Strong, Penélope Cruz and Cohen's wife Isla Fisher can also be seen in the film.
"Everyone will know the truth"
Even back then, Rebel made no secret of the fact that there had been disagreements with her co-star on set. "Every day he asks: 'Rebel, can you just take your clothes off in this scene?' And I say: 'No!' Sacha and I had the same agent in America and I said: 'Sacha, I'm going to call our agent Sharon and tell her how much you're bothering me,'" she once explained in a radio interview.
In the end, a body double was used, but Cohen was clearly not satisfied. "Then, in the last scene, he said: 'Rebel, can you stick your finger up my butt? And I said: 'What do you mean, Sacha? It's not in the script. And he said: 'Look, I'll just pull my pants down, you just stick your finger up my butt, it'll be a really funny part."
Fans will find out from April 2 what Sacha Baron Cohen could be afraid of after such detailed explanations from his fellow actress. The book will come out and "everyone will know the truth", Rebel Wilson recently clarified once again.
