"Non-verbal agreement"
Because of Gosling: why Mendes gave up her career
While Ryan Gosling (43) shoots one movie after the next, things have gone quiet for his partner Eva Mendes (50). In a new interview, the actress reveals exactly why this was her wish.
Hollywood actress Eva Mendes has spoken about her retirement from acting and the division of labor with husband Ryan Gosling. "It was almost a non-verbal agreement," said Mendes on the "Today" show.
Retirement from acting was "a no-brainer"
After a career spanning years with action and comedy hits ("2 Fast 2 Furious", "Hitch - The Date Doctor"), she retired from Hollywood around ten years ago with the birth of her first daughter with Gosling.
During her appearance, Eva Mendes was asked, among other things, what it was like for her to say goodbye to acting more and more and concentrate fully on her new life. "It was a piece of cake. I'm so happy, and I thought, if I can spend this time with my kids ... And I was still working, I just wasn't acting."
Acting "takes you away"
"It was like, okay, he's going to work and I'm going to work, I'm just going to work here," Mendes said, referring to her shared home with Gosling. She had wanted to give up acting "because acting takes you to locations, it takes you away," Mendes explained
The fact that she wanted to stay at home for her two daughters, now aged nine and seven, "pretty much went without saying". Gosling, who was recently nominated for an Oscar for his role as Ken in the "Barbie" film, expressly thanked Mendes at the Golden Globe Awards in 2017 for making it possible for him to work in Hollywood.
Mendes and Gosling love their life away from Hollywood
Eva Mendes and Ryan Gosling have been a couple since 2011 and worked together on the film "The Place Beyond the Pines". "I've never experienced anything like it. The way he works, his commitment to his craft, how he wants to make everything as good as possible, and that means he wants to make his actors as good as possible. But unfortunately - or fortunately - there's only one Ryan!" enthused the 50-year-old about the man close to her heart.
There is no trace of jealousy about no longer pursuing her passion, acting, at the moment. Instead, the parents of two daughters are enjoying their life away from Hollywood. "For them, their girls are the most important job. Everything else comes second," an insider recently told the American "People" magazine and emphasized: "And their girls are doing wonderfully. They left L.A. to live a little further north, away from Hollywood. They didn't want the girls to grow up with other celebrity kids."
