Mistaken for a hedgehog
Woman brings hood bobble to animal rescue center
An English woman spent a whole night trying to nurse up a baby hedgehog she had found. But nothing helped and the animal didn't move an inch. When she called a vet for help, it became clear why. "She was very embarrassed," a vet revealed.
The Englishwoman had found the pom-pom of a hood with what she thought were spikes and identified it as a helpless baby hedgehog. She carefully took the fluffy ball home, placed it in a cardboard box lined with newspaper and put a small bowl of cat food next to it.
But when she checked the next morning, the supposed hedgehog had not moved and the food remained untouched.
Hauben-Bommel was taken to the vet
Concerned, she drove to the nearest animal rescue center, the Lower Moss Wood Nature Reserve & Wildlife Hospital in Knutsford, as British media reported on Tuesday. There she handed the box to vet Janet Kotze.
"The woman gave me the box and said she had found a hedgehog cub on the sidewalk during the day," reported Kotze according to the Daily Mail. This was alarming: "It's actually still too early in the year for a hedgehog cub. And they shouldn't be outside during the day either."
"At least she has her heart in the right place"
She opened the box and immediately realized that it couldn't be a hedgehog. In fact, it turned out to be nothing alive. "When I told the woman that it was just the bobble of a hood, she was very embarrassed." She quickly took the box and disappeared with it.
"At least she has her heart in the right place," said the vet about the "hedgehog" rescuer. "Basically, she did everything right, except that it wasn't a hedgehog cub that she rescued."
