From 0:1 to a 2:1 victory
VfB Stuttgart vs. Heidenheim – LIVE copy from 5.30 pm
What a crazy final phase in Leverkusen! The "Werkself" were trailing 0:1 against Hoffenheim until the 88th minute, before Robert Andrich and Patrik Schick turned the game around to make it 2:1. Xabi Alonso's team thus remain unbeaten for the 39th time. Meanwhile, Freiburg's Michael Gregoritsch scored in a 3-0 win over Mönchengladbach - just as he did recently with the national team. RB Leipzig were held to a 0-0 draw by Mainz despite numerous scoring chances.
Leverkusen, who remain unbeaten at the top of the table, extended their lead over Bayern Munich to 13 points.
However, Bayern can move back to ten points with a win in the top match against Borussia Dortmund (6.30pm). ÖFB team striker Michael Gregoritsch once again proved his scoring prowess in Freiburg's 3-0 win in Gladbach, four days after his treble against Turkey.
Here are the results in detail:
Leaders Leverkusen were on the attack for long periods in their clash with Hoffenheim and lacked precision in their finishing. At the other end, the visitors took the lead with their first shot on goal. Neo-DFB international Maximilian Beier completed a one-two with Wout Weghorst (33').
Leverkusen continued to dominate the game in the second half, with Florian Wirtz, Jeremie Frimpong and Patrik Schick all missing good opportunities. However, as so often this season, the leaders managed to turn the game around in the final minutes. First Robert Andrich scored on the volley (88'), before Schick scored the much-acclaimed winner from close range in the first minute of stoppage time (91'). Leverkusen thus remained unbeaten for the 39th competitive match in a row.
Gregoritsch again opens the scoring
Gregoritsch gave Freiburg the lead after just seven minutes in Gladbach. The attacker pushed a deflected shot over the line from close range and once again acted as the can opener. It was the tenth time Gregoritsch had scored the important 1:0 in his time at Freiburg in the Bundesliga. After the break, Gladbach keeper Jonas Omlin was able to save a Gregoritsch shot, but was ultimately beaten by Merlin Röhl's follow-up shot (47'). Ritsu Doan scored to make the final score 3:0 (58').
RB Leipzig were held to a goalless draw at home against Mainz 05 despite clearly having the upper hand. The Saxons moved past Dortmund, at least temporarily, with the point. The game between Frankfurt and Union Berlin also ended goalless.
