Raab on integration:
“Result of a misunderstood tolerance”
A large part of the ÖVP's "Austria Plan" consists of establishing a new guiding culture in the country. Ten experts are consulted on how a basic consensus for living together can be strengthened, explains Integration Minister Susanne Raab in the krone.tv studio with presenter Tanja Pfaffeneder.
It is about human rights, equality and democracy. It is now accepted and desired that people deal with values in the immigration process. After all, many immigrants come from cultures in which women are worth less.
Violent excesses, riots, damage to property and assaults - brutal youth gangs cause many problems in Austria, especially in the capital. From Saturday morning there will be another weapons ban zone in Vienna: Reumannplatz.
A matter for the judiciary
"If laws are violated, if there are violent excesses or if we also have violence against women from time to time, most recently cases where girls are raped or even murdered, then it is no longer a matter for integration, it is a matter for the judge, it is a security police issue, it is a matter for the judiciary and the courts," Raab is certain.
The ÖVP has subsequently declared 2023 to be the "year of repatriations and deportations". 12,900 people had to leave the country. "Integration can only work if a number of people come to us that is acceptable for a society," said the Integration Minister, praising the work of Interior Minister Gerhard Karner.
