Knowledge test
Youngsters put to the test
The young comrades in the country are currently proving their firefighting talent: after weeks of preparation, badges await the young florians after the knowledge test.
The more or less cold season is traditionally used by the fire department groups between Enns and Leitha to prepare the youngsters for the knowledge test and the knowledge test game. For weeks, the youngsters have been learning and practicing what it means to be a firefighter in the future.

Of ranks and dangers
The knowledge test is a challenge for the 12 to 15-year-olds. They have to visit several test stations and, among other things, recognize the ranks and tie knots correctly. They also need to know about the equipment and basic knowledge that they will need in the fire department later on. The knowledge test, meanwhile, requires ten and eleven-year-olds to recognize dangers using situation sketches and the siren alarm signals as well as making an emergency call.
The figures show that young firefighters are on trend. There are 650 participants in the St. Pölten district, where more than every second fire department relies on youth groups as a training ground for future active members. In the Amstetten district, there are a further 600 young people from 54 fire departments. "The level of training has been very high," says district commander Rudolf Katzengruber happily.
