FCD coach Eric Orie:
“We haven’t had that for a long time”
FC Dornbirn host SV Horn in League Two today (14:30). After the recent derby win against Bregenz in the championship, the Reds would now like to add to their tally. Ideally with a third home win of the season. They have been able to prepare better than almost ever this season.
"It's been a long time since we've been able to prepare so positively for a game," said Dornbirn coach Eric Orie, pleased with the new momentum that the derby win against Bregenz gave the Messestadt team before the international break. "There was no sloppiness or nervousness, everyone worked with great concentration." And now the coach wants a repeat performance against Horn. "Now we can prove whether we can bring the same discipline to the pitch as in the derby," says Orie. "But it will be a different game. Bregenz wanted to play, it will be tougher against the very robust Horn team."
The Reds realize how important a three-pointer at home would be today. Without points, the dream of staying in the league will recede further into the distance. "That's why I want to see passion, the players have to play with heart," demands Orie, "we also owe that to our spectators."
Positive results have been few and far between at the Birkenwiese this season. Dornbirn have celebrated two home wins so far. On August 19 against Admira and on September 15 against Amstetten, both narrow 1:0 wins. That was a long time ago. "The home record is pretty disastrous," Orie regrets, "so we really want to give ourselves and our fans a third home win today."
Difficult decision
As far as his squad is concerned, the coach is faced with decisions. Because he has almost all of his personnel on board. Only Noa Mathis is missing with a torn muscle fiber in his gluteal muscle. Cavafe returned healthy from his national team appearances for Cuba and Samuel Mischitz, who was recently injured, trained fully. Captain Rodrigues is also fit again. "It won't be easy with the line-up, everyone won't be able to play," said Orie, "a luxury problem that we've never had this season."
What is certain, however, is that Renan will remain on the bench. The striker, who only recently got fit, scored in his second appearance against Bregenz and twice in the test against Eschen. "It's still too early for longer outings," explained Orie, "but it'll be a different story in two weeks' time."
