Sütcü makes his debut for Vienna
Potential for top 3 with more dominance from Vienna
Vienna no longer have the youngest coach in the second division, although Zellhofer's successor is only 34 years old. Mehmet Sütcü returns to Floridsdorf, where he spent four seasons as an active player, for today's debut for the traditional club as part of the matinee against Stripfing (10.30 am).
From 2012 to 2016, the FAC pitch was Mehmet Sütcü's sporting home. It remains a memory of "a very nice playing time with a championship title and promotion to the second division!" Today, his path leads him back to Floridsdorf, but his first match as coach for Vienna will not be against FAC, but Stripfing, the "subtenants" in Hopfengasse. As the successor to Alexander Zellhofer, 29, who was dismissed last Saturday, the team will continue to rely on youth until the end of the season. Sütcü is only 34 years old, but unlike his predecessor, that is no longer enough for the youngest coach in the league, who is now Amstetten's Enengl at 30. Of course, this is just a side issue.
Must be the aim
After Stripfing's collapse in the spring, it seems like an easy task on paper, "but these are the difficult games because everyone expects a win!" That must be the aim, especially as Sütcü, who recommended himself as a successful coach of the blue and yellow amateurs (leaders of the second national league), sees Vienna "among the top three in the league in terms of playing potential".
In his first week as a Vienna player under coach Hans Kleer, Sütcü, the 2017 regional league champion (and yet not promoted because the club collapsed financially in the final phase of main sponsor Care Energy), has already put the pedal to the metal. "The team is not at the top level physically!" That's why they trained twice on two days.
He does not want to commit to a system. "It often becomes blurred during a game. "But we want to be more dominant, attack higher, act, not react," is how he describes his credo, having played together with the Luxbacher brothers and goalkeeper Gremsl.
Sütcü already had a coaching career in mind as a player. "We know that we have to perform if we want to keep the role!" This also applies to Roman Kienast, who was brought up from the U-18s as an assistant.
