Girl (8) was with neighbors before her murder
An eight-year-old girl was found murdered in Mexico. Shortly before her death, she had been visiting a neighboring family. The suspected neighbor is also no longer alive - she was killed by a mob of angry people.
Videos showing the abduction of eight-year-old Camila hadreportedly gone viral on social media. According to a Spanish media report, the authorities also had evidence from private surveillance cameras at the time. The police surrounded the house to prevent the neighbor from escaping. But before they could take any further action, an angry mob broke into the house to get the woman and her children out. The videos show people climbing onto the roof, eventually getting into the house and beating and kicking the woman and her two sons.
Mob was too slow for police
"Kill them. Kill her," they are said to have shouted. The neighbor was seen on the surveillance camera. She is said to have put a basket of clothes in a cab, including a bundle that could be Camila's body. According to the mob, the police acted too slowly and should have issued an arrest warrant earlier.
The officers then allegedly took the seriously injured neighbor to the public prosecutor's office rather than immediately to a hospital. The seriousness of the injury was not known, said the mayor of the municipality of Taxco de Alarcón, where the incident took place. The suspect eventually died there and the condition of her two sons is said to be stable.
Man arrested
According to media reports, the woman who was lynched was a friend of Camila's mother. The girl had been invited to use the pool on a hot afternoon, it is said. When Camila's mother went to pick up the eight-year-old a few hours later, the woman denied that she had even come to the house. The mother then searched the area frantically and unsuccessfully. She is said to have received calls telling her that her daughter had been kidnapped and demanding money for her release.
The lynched woman's partner finally gave the whereabouts of the body and was arrested as a suspect. The girl was buried on Friday afternoon.
