Atlanta wins, Schröder frustrated by Nets defeat
The Atlanta Hawks can already count on the postseason in the NBA. While they won their own game against Chicago, the Brooklyn Nets had to cope with a defeat.
On Monday evening, Atlanta consolidated tenth place in the Eastern Conference with a 113:101 victory over the Chicago Bulls, thus securing the last place that entitles them to participate in the Basketball League's play-in tournament. At the same time, the Brooklyn Nets lost 111-133 to the Indiana Pacers. With one game less to play, the Hawks now have six more wins to their name than runner-up Brooklyn.
Frustration for Schröder
The Nets' deficit to tenth place can only be closed in theory. Although the Nets have won the direct comparison, another win by the Hawks or another defeat of their own will decide the battle for last place. On Wednesday evening, the Nets meet the Pacers again at the Barclays Center in New York, while the Hawks play the Detroit Pistons - the worst team in the league - at the same time.
Nets pro Dennis Schröder was already showing signs of frustration on Monday, as the German had an altercation with opponent Jalen Smith. The basketball players had to be separated from their teammates and coaches. Schröder received a technical foul after the incident and Smith was even sent off.
