Meeting in Eisenstadt
Automatically saved draft
The Raiffeisen Austrian Open Eisenstadt is taking shape. The organizers have signed up top international pole vaulters for the competition directly in front of the grandstand - so there will be a "duel" between the former European champions. The event also provides a stage for young local athletics talents.
One was European champion indoors, the other European champion outdoors. Top Polish athletes Piotr Lisek and Robert Sobera will be competing in the pole vault competition as part of the "World Continental Tour Silver" meeting in Eisenstadt on 22 May. "There will be ten pole vaulters with best performances ranging from 5 to 6.02 metres," explains organizer Rolf Meixner.
An absolute mood maker
Apart from the European Championship title in 2017, Lisek has won five World Championship medals in his career so far, including one silver! "I really wanted him," smiles Meixner, "he creates a great atmosphere." In addition to his Polish compatriot Sobera, multiple Mexican champion and Pan American Games bronze medalist Jorge Luna will also be competing.
Secure the best tickets
The athletes jump directly in front of the grandstand, separated only by a Plexiglas wall with just over a meter of space between them. "The best seats for this are under the grandstand at the top and standing room at the top - it really will be a show," says Meixner, who recommends securing tickets quickly at www.la-akademie.at. "I just had a request from a Swiss fan club with 20 people."
There are currently still around 150 seats and 50 standing places in the main stand.

Apart from the top international athletes, some Burgenland athletes can also be seen in the supporting program and in the "Nightraces". From 6 p.m. there will be U14 relay races for schools, sports clubs and youth fire departments (5x200 m). Academy athlete Marie Glaser will attempt to run the U20 World Championships limit for Peru in the 1500m.
