Over 100,000 euros defrauded from insurance companies

A 32-year-old Tyrolean is said to have ripped off insurance companies for years with forged medical and ambulance bills. The damage is enormous, in the six-figure euro range. It is thanks to an attentive employee that the alleged fraudster did not continue to unjustly cash in.

The scam apparently worked without a hitch between October 2019 and November 2023. According to the police, the 32-year-old from the Kufstein district falsified medical and ambulance bills and then submitted them to two insurance companies and a private insurance company.

All in all, he was wrongly paid more than 100,000 euros during this period.

Original fee notes manipulated
"Specifically, he had manipulated original fee notes and transport cost statements issued in his name by using a computer to change the content of the invoices, such as the treatment and transport date, invoice amount and number of treatments," the investigators describe.

After noticing during the processing of submitted invoices that the insured person had submitted an above-average number of invoices with high invoice amounts, more detailed checks were carried out.

Suspect paid back money
The suspect was ultimately unmasked. After the 32-year-old was exposed, he repaid all the damage.
