Dispute with wife: mayor not allowed home

A mayor in his home municipality in Burgenland is the subject of much excitement. The police were alerted after an argument with his wife in a pub. The officers who intervened issued a no-entry and no-approach order against the head of the village. He is now classified as a dangerous person. 

The incident has caused quite a stir in the local politician's home town. The Easter egg hunt had begun peacefully last Holy Saturday with happy children. The celebration at the edge of the Easter bonfire continued towards the evening in the pub.

Eyewitnesses horrified
While guests were chatting happily, the mood between the mayor and his wife changed. There was obviously an argument. According to witnesses, the head of the ÖVP party suddenly raised his hand threateningly. Guests who were nearby feared that the man could no longer control himself and would hit his wife.

Guest intervened
The very next moment, a highly concerned observer of the dramatic scenes stood protectively in front of the woman. He did not hit her, but the mayor was very aggressive, it was said after the sensational incident.

Tense atmosphere
The head of the village, who is said to be extremely jealous, did not calm down so quickly. The police were called immediately. In the middle of the operation, the officers promptly issued a no trespassing and approach ban against the mayor. This means that the man is suspected of being a threat and is not allowed to go home for the time being in order to prevent the tense situation from escalating in the first place.

"Not the first time"
Word on the street is that this is apparently not the first time that the father and his wife have had an argument. In his professional environment, he also has a reputation for going about his work with a certain rigor that, for many of those affected, clearly exceeds the normal level.

Provisional 14-day period
In the mayor's case, the injunction is valid for two weeks. "The woman could have the period extended," explains an expert. In addition, a temporary weapons ban was officially imposed, as is common practice. The investigations are only just beginning.

In Burgenland alone, the Neustart association, which takes care of perpetrators, reports 325 cases of violence against women every year.
