Hyundai i30: Update for the successful Korean model
Hyundai is sending the compact i30 into the new model year with a refresh. In addition to a few visual tweaks, the Koreans are upgrading connectivity and safety features in particular.
The current third generation has been given a new front end, with a redesigned radiator grille, bumper insert and fog light surrounds. At the front, the sporty N Line is adorned with a striking grille structure on the radiator grille and a metal accent, which is also found in the new side sill panels. There are also new 18-inch alloys.
At the rear, the five-door and estate have a more angular chrome insert in the bumper. In addition, LED headlights and tail lights are now part of the standard equipment.
In the interior, Hyundai promises higher-quality materials, including on the gloss black center console. The N Line is accentuated with leather and Alcantara with three horizontal lines in red.
More safety and connectivity
In terms of electronics, the i30 now has 10.3-inch digital dashboards, front and rear USB-C charging ports and over-the-air map updates as standard.
The range of standard assistance systems has also been expanded. Autonomous Emergency Brake Assist was already on board the previous model. It is now supplemented by cyclist detection. The occupant alert warns the driver before getting out of the car with a message on the display if a rear door is opened before the journey begins.
The autonomous emergency brake assist can optionally be supplemented with a turning function. This prevents collisions with oncoming vehicles when turning left. The optional freeway assistant automatically keeps its distance from the vehicle in front, adapts its speed to the speed limit and bends and keeps the vehicle in its lane.
The standard front and rear parking aids and the reversing camera with dynamic boundary lines ensure greater safety and comfort.
In Austria, there is a choice between a 110 hp 1.5 liter diesel and two turbocharged petrol engines with 1.0 and 1.5 liter displacement. The diesel is available with a manual 6-speed gearbox. The two turbo GDI engines can be ordered with either a manual (6MT) or dual-clutch transmission (7DCT). The small three-cylinder engine produces 120 hp, while the top-of-the-range four-cylinder petrol engine delivers 159 hp.
The manufacturer intends to publish prices and precise technical data at a later date. The price list currently starts at 24,990 euros for the basic diesel hatchback. Estate plus 1000 euros. Market launch in summer.
