Following the fatal plane crash on Holy Saturday in the Stubai Alps in Tyrol, the police announced new details on Wednesday. The body of the pilot has now been autopsied and the wreckage of the plane has been recovered by helicopter from an altitude of around 2800 meters above sea level.

The identity of the deceased pilot is now also known. The police told the "Krone" newspaper that he was a 52-year-old German. According to the results of the autopsy carried out at the Innsbruck forensic medicine department, he suffered polytrauma in the crash. He was therefore probably dead on the spot.

Wreckage is now being examined in detail
The cause of the crash is still "completely unclear", according to the Tyrolean State Office of Criminal Investigation. An expert is examining the wreckage and preparing a technical report. Investigations by the State Office of Criminal Investigation are ongoing and the Federal Safety Investigation Board is also involved. How long it will take to clarify the cause of the accident cannot be "reliably" estimated.

Contact with the pilot broken off
On Holy Saturday, the single-engine Cessna 172 disappeared from the radar and contact with the pilot, who was alone on board, was lost. The take-off had taken place in Urbe near Rome, the destination airfield would have been Kaufbeuren-Bad Wörishofen in the Allgäu region. Contact was lost at around 11.45 a.m. north-east of Sölden.
