Salzburg preferred! Ilzer has a crazy apple explanation
Sturm coach Christian Ilzer actually wanted to put the issue of the 3:1 scrum against Graz from the league game against Salzburg behind him, including exclusions and suspensions. But he didn't quite manage to do so in the run-up to the cup duel with the "Bulls" on Thursday ...
After the turbulent finish, Graz are missing two key players in defensive midfield - Gorenc Stankovic and Dimitri Lavalee - who are suspended, and sporting boss Andreas Schicker is also out after the scuffle at the weekend. Salzburg, on the other hand, only have to make do with Gourna-Douath. For Ilzer, this is a clear "distortion", which he justifies with a thoroughly idiosyncratic explanation.
"Promoting top drive is normal in nature"
The Sturm coach referred to his origins in the apple village of Puch near Weiz and ventured on a botanical excursion. "Top shoot development is normal in nature," said the Styrian. "I found this explanation and quickly found peace."
The "promotion of top drives" - Ilzer also spoke of a "distortion" in this context - also exists in other leagues, in various groups, in nature and in society. "The one at the top has even more promotion, gets even more favor. That will not change." The aim is to make the most of the opportunities available. "At some point, we too will be the strongest branch on the tree."
"Reality shock" for the Bulls
If Salzburg are not made so easy in the league, the "reality shock" for the Bulls in the Champions League may not be so great, Ilzer speculated. "I think we've been on a par in the games this season." Compared to Sunday, however, they need to find better solutions in the final third. "We have to play high-quality, precise and fast soccer - and also get to grips with Fernando in the opposite direction," warned Ilzer of Salzburg's ace striker.
