New city government
ÖVP also loses the garden department
On Thursday, the future city government will present itself with the newly distributed responsibilities. There was yet another disappointment for the People's Party in the last round of negotiations.
The prospective city government met for the first time on Wednesday in the large five-member round. At the meeting of all members, the distribution of portfolios had to be finalized. The rough plans of SPÖ election winner Bernhard Auinger remained unchanged. This means that ÖVP Deputy Mayor Florian Kreibich will actually have to hand over planning and transport to Anna Schiester from the Citizens' List, by far the smallest parliamentary group in the city government.
This will cause little joy in the ÖVP. "I don't think it's unusual that not everyone is 100 percent happy with the allocation of portfolios," says Auinger. He wants to present the details to the public on Thursday. In future, the prospective head of the city himself will take care of the central departments of finance and personnel - as is usual for the mayor.
He will also retain the education department with culture and sport. The latter in particular was a matter close to Auinger's heart. His SPÖ colleague Andrea Brandner will retain the social services department, but without the housing department, which will be transferred to Kay-Michael Dankl's (KPÖ Plus) large housing department. Instead, she will be responsible for the gardening department, which previously belonged to the ÖVP. Kreibich is also not very happy about this.
Dankl will also be responsible for the Gswb in future
The head of the City ÖVP will retain the large municipal department 1 with the district administration, as well as the public order, criminal and registry offices. He also manages the municipal enterprises, excluding the gardening department and the tourism company. Dankl's housing portfolio also includes the municipal real estate company SIG, the city-owned apartments and owner representation at Gswb, the non-profit housing association of the city and state. A new managing director will soon be appointed there.
