Half a dozen candidates in the starting blocks
No matter how this season ends for Sturm, one thing is certain: there will be major changes in the summer! There will be international interest in European Championship candidates Prass, Stankovic, Horvat and Kiteishvili, while Gazibegovic, Biereth and Jaros are also likely to take the next step in their careers and Serrano's loan contract is due to expire. In return, potential new players are waiting in the wings.
With Tochi Chukwuani, sporting director Andreas Schicker has already made a permanent signing for central midfield (as a replacement for Kiteishvili?). The 21-year-old Dane with roots in Nigeria was signed from Lyngby for 200,000 euros. The U21 team-mate of Böving and Biereth, who has a market value of €1.2 million, is currently playing in the Danish relegation play-offs, having lost 6-2 to a potential fellow striker at Easter: Mohammed Fuseini netted three times for Randers in that game. The 21-year-old Ghanaian, who has been loaned out until July, had previously only scored once.
Fuseini's return to Graz is theoretically possible - like that of Bryan Teixeira, who was loaned out to Magdeburg after the Africa Cup. After tearing a ligament, the Cape Verde team player only made two part-time appearances in the 2nd German league.
Amadou Dante, on the other hand, is a permanent fixture: the 23-year-old Malian is fourth in the Super League with FC Zurich.
Vesel Demaku also gets plenty of playing time in Altach. The 24-year-old midfield stabilizer has already scored once for Joachim Standfest's side.
In the steel bath of the Bundesliga relegation battle, he is Luca Kronberger's opponent. The 22-year-old has already scored three times in 19 league appearances for WSG Tirol.
However, it remains to be seen how many squad places will be available at Sturm in Graz next season - and also depends on which extension options the Black & Whites will take up. Dimitri Lavalee's extension could probably only be prevented by a serious injury to the Belgian. The comeback of Kjell Scherpen, who is already training eagerly in Graz after tearing his cruciate ligament, is probably fixed.
