Search for Danka
After a false manhunt: “I’m going through hell”
The Viennese woman Ms. S. was falsely accused of kidnapping. She is still waiting for an apology. Now she talks to the "Krone" about the manhunt for her and her daughter.
Due to unfortunate circumstances, the now confirmed death of two-year-old Danka from Serbia became a red-white-red criminal case. As reported, Danka's mother had recognized her kidnapped daughter on a video in Vienna. The alleged kidnapper: Ms. S.
S. reported in the magazine "Kosmo" how she found out about the manhunt. The Viennese woman has now gone into more detail in the "Krone" newspaper.
"Krone": Ms. S., it is now a sad certainty: little Danka is dead. How did you find out and how are you feeling, given that your fate is inevitably linked to that of the girl?
S.: I am shocked. On several levels. I've just come home from work myself. Police officers have informed me that Danka has apparently now been found. But I'm also still shocked that I was wrongly searched for all over Europe.
Have the Serbian police already apologized for the misunderstanding?
No. I haven't heard anything yet.
Do you expect an apology?
I would like to know how this could have happened. My daughter looks completely different and is also a year older. I don't know how you can confuse these two children. Apart from that, I haven't been to Serbia for years. I was born in Romania and have been living and working in Austria since 2015.
When exactly did you find out that you were wanted?
We were invited to a friend's house in Wels at Easter. Then work colleagues who also know my daughter called me. They said that there was an international manhunt for me and my mother. I wanted to clear up the misunderstanding anyway. But they didn't really help me. I've been going through hell since Sunday! I just want everyone to know: We're not criminals, we didn't kidnap a child!
