Under pressure from the USA?

Aid for Palestinians to be increased now

Israel wants to take "immediate steps" to increase humanitarian aid for the war-torn civilian population in the Gaza Strip. The port of Ashdod and the Eretz border crossing will be opened temporarily.

This should make it easier for aid to reach the north of the Gaza Strip, which is particularly affected by food shortages. Aid supplies coming from Jordan via the Kerem Shalom border crossing will also be increased.

"This increased aid will prevent a humanitarian crisis and is essential to ensure the continuation of the fighting and to achieve the goals of the war," the Haaretz newspaper quoted from the Israeli statement.

USA: "Reduce suffering, increase protection for aid workers
The announcement was made shortly after a telephone conversation between US President Joe Biden and Netanyahu. According to the White House, Biden had called on the Israeli head of government to take a series of "specific, concrete and measurable steps" to reduce the suffering of the people in the Gaza Strip and increase the protection of aid workers. Future US policy on Gaza depends on how Israel implements these measures, Biden warned.

"Results on the ground completely inadequate and unacceptable"
The US government considers Israel's current measures to protect the civilian population in the Gaza Strip to be inadequate (see video above). "Despite important steps Israel has taken to enable assistance in Gaza, the results on the ground are woefully inadequate and unacceptable," said US Secretary of State Antony Blinken in Brussels on Thursday. There is currently no higher priority than the protection of the civilian population and the expansion of humanitarian aid.

Port construction for aid by sea is progressing
The USA is sticking to its plans for a temporary port in the sea off the coastal area even after the deadly air attack on seven humanitarian aid workers in the Gaza Strip. The incident has had no impact on efforts to build the pier to deliver aid by sea. The intention is to proceed with the project as quickly as possible.
