Incredible odyssey
Dog turned up 3770 kilometers from home
Terrier-mix dog "Mishka" proved her will to survive and stamina. The animal had been reported missing by her owners in the US state of California in July 2023. She has now reappeared 3770 kilometers from home near Detroit.
To the great delight of her owners in the US state of California, the little missing dog has unexpectedly reappeared thousands of kilometers away from her home.
Local residents reported the stray
"Mishka" had been picked up by the police near the city of Detroit in the state of Michigan and taken to an animal shelter - more than 3770 kilometers away from her home in San Diego in Southern California.
A local resident had previously reported the stray dog near Harper Woods in the state of Michigan. The animal shelter checked whether "Mishka" was chipped - and she was!
Owner traced thanks to chip
"Mishka's" owners could be contacted thanks to the chip. According to GPAAS, the family happened to be on vacation in the Midwestern city of Minneapolis at the time and were therefore able to pick up their missing pet from the shelter in person.
Although the journey from Minneapolis is much shorter than the journey from San Diego, it still took ten hours. A lot of time on the road, which "Mishka's" owners were happy to put up with.
Pictures (see above) and videos shared by the animal welfare organization Grosse Pointe Animal Adoption Society (GPAAS) show a small, shaggy dog with white fur wagging her tail joyfully when reunited with her owners.
"This is a story Hollywood would love to tell," GPAAS wrote in a Facebook post on Wednesday. But how the little dog got this far is and will probably remain her secret ...
