"It's rare"
What Jancker says about his return to Leoben
It was the big excitement in the last few hours. On Thursday evening, second division club Leoben announced the departure of coach Rene Poms, and just a few hours later, his predecessor Carsten Jancker was announced as his successor. The German explained to the "Krone" how it came about.
Suddenly it happened very quickly: On Thursday evening, second division club Leoben announced the departure of coach Rene Poms just a few hours after the Cup semi-final against Rapid (0:3), who resigned following differences with the board. His successor, Carsten Jancker, was presented on Friday morning.
The same Carsten Jancker who was replaced by Poms as DSV coach at the end of August. Whose contract is still valid until the end of the season. "The club approached me and asked if I could imagine it," Jancker told the "Krone". As a condition, however, he wanted to clear up the past. "These talks also took place on Thursday. Everything was cleared up and then I decided to accept."
A rare comeback
Jancker does not want to let it stand that there were controversies with the board when he left last year. "That's not true. There were sporting reasons why they didn't want to continue." But even for the 49-year-old German, the sudden comeback under the blast furnaces came as a surprise. "That's also very rare in soccer. But I had the feeling that my journey with Leoben wasn't over yet"
Today, his path leads him to his first game in his second era. And a real cracker awaits with leaders GAK. "We'll prepare ourselves for it and want to stand up to them. It's sure to be a great game because a lot of spectators will be there. What comes out in the end depends on our performance on the pitch."
