Senior citizen back in the USA
Departure missed: Passengers traveled to the ship
Nine passengers on the "Norwegian Dawn" will probably not forget this vacation in a hurry. After an excursion ashore, they arrived at the port more than an hour late and were left behind (see video above). They then traveled after the ship on their own through several countries.
As reported, a medical emergency during the tour was the reason for the delay. An 80-year-old woman had suffered a concussion and required medical treatment. The woman had already been examined on board, the cruise company announced. After the emergency, the team contacted the passenger directly. She is now feeling better and has returned to the USA via Lisbon.
The other passengers tried their luck in the next port in Gambia. However, the "Norwegian Dawn" did not even dock there due to the weather. Despite this setback, the group did not give up and continued their journey by ferry to Senegal. In the meantime, the eight passengers were able to get back on board and continue their journey.
As these guests were on a private tour and did not return to the ship at the specified time, they are responsible for reaching the ship again at the next available port.

Hardly any assumption of costs
The cruise company said it shared the guests' disappointment, but was obliged to ensure safety on board. "As these guests were on a private tour and did not return to the ship at the specified time, they are responsible for getting back to the ship at the next available port."
Only the costs for the journey from The Gambia to Senegal will be reimbursed. Passengers have to pay the rest out of their own pockets. If the excursion had been booked on board, passengers would either have had to wait in the event of a delay or the shipping company would have had to organize and pay for the onward journey.
