Start of 35th season
Excursion to “back in the day”
The Mönchhof village museum is entering its 35th season. Since Easter Sunday, you can once again visit the 35 houses that once stood on the Heideboden - including a special exhibition.
Spring has arrived at the Mönchhof Village Museum. This time - for once - nothing new was built over the winter months, but some things were renovated.
"We're entering our 35th season this year," says Pepo Haubenwallner. "There's already a lot that needs to be repaired and maintained." The man from Mönchhof, who has been collecting old houses and other things from the time of our grandparents for 40 years, has also created a special exhibition. It is called "With needle and thread - beautiful things for the home".
"There are around 100 doilies with all kinds of sayings hanging in the barn," says Pepo. And even though the village museum has only been open for a week, it is already clear that people are enthusiastic about it. "There used to be these blankets everywhere. They hung behind the stove or in the box. Our visitors really enjoy studying the different sayings. And I'm pleased that the doilies aren't gathering dust in the drawer!"
Some of them are really old. One piece, for example, dates from 1894, another from 1914. Anyone who wants to immerse themselves in the "former world" of our grandparents and great-grandparents has until mid-November to do so. A tip and fixed point in the year is the Craft Day - this year on July 28. Old crafts are brought back to life. On April 20, by the way, the "Kiebarett" will be shown at the cinema.
