GAK and Leoben with 1:1
A soccer festival without a record and without a winner
In front of 7080 fans, leaders GAK and DSV Leoben drew 1-1 in a Second Division clash. Daniel Maderner mourned the victory and the missed chances, but could live with the point. As was DSV debutant Moritz Heinrich, who scored late on despite the disputes.
With 7200 spectators, second division club GAK set the attendance record in the second division against Amstetten in the pre-season since the reform. This mark was narrowly missed in the top match against runner-up DSV Leoben with 7080 fans. However, the record of this season (Ried against GAK with 6120 in the previous week) was broken.
Many spectators in the stands discussed the events of the last few days in Leoben. Coach Rene Poms, the goalkeeping coach, the video analyst and the head of sport all said their goodbyes. However, the players on the pitch were unimpressed. Not even when GAK took a 1:0 lead after 37 minutes through top scorer Daniel Maderner. DSV fought and were rewarded with a point late on (88') after Moritz Heinrich scored a solo goal to make the final score 1:1.
The perfect time
"I couldn't have picked a better time than a derby to score my first goal," grinned the 26-year-old, who was exhausted by the warm temperatures. "The third game in a week is exhausting. Hopefully things will pick up now and things will settle down."
Everyone at the club is now hoping for that. Even if the players have only noticed it in passing. "We ignored most of it. Even the last-minute change of coach to Carsten Jancker hasn't changed much."
Little has changed in the table, with GAK 14 points ahead of their closest rivals. "Losing a point immediately after the game hurts. Because we didn't attack energetically enough when we conceded the goal and didn't close the bag beforehand," said Maderner, who was nevertheless able to live with the point.
GAK coach Gernot Messner saw it similarly, missing the lightness of touch. "The 1:1 hurts because we missed two great chances. But we started the spring with an eight-point lead, now after seven games it's 14. That's an outstanding result!"
