Helicopter operation
12-year-old vacationing child bitten by snake
On Saturday afternoon, two serious incidents occurred almost simultaneously in Mariazellerland, Styria. A car crashed into a motorcycle and a snake bite required the help of the Red Cross.
Shortly after 2 p.m., a car and a motorcycle collided for unknown reasons on the B24, the Hochschwabbundesstraße, between Greith and Rotmoos, with the biker being thrown over the hood of the car and seriously injured. After first aid by the Mariazellerland Red Cross emergency medical team, the 18-year-old motorcyclist from the district of Leoben was taken to Scheibbs Regional Hospital (Lower Austria) in a stable condition.
Shortly after 2 p.m., another team from the Mariazellerland Red Cross was also called out to help a twelve-year-old German vacationer after being bitten by a (presumably young) adder. The holidaymaker's family went to the health center in Mariazell on their own, from where the boy was transported to the nearby airfield by ambulance after receiving first aid. He was finally flown to the regional hospital in Amstetten (Lower Austria) by the Christophorus 15 emergency helicopter.
