Frustration at Lustenau
“Really pissed off”, “scandal”: angry speech from goalie
It just had to come out! Lustenau goalkeeper Domenik Schierl caused a stir with his angry speech after the 1:1 draw against Vienna Austria. He was "really pissed off" and the penalty for the Violets was "a scandal".
A penalty converted by Austria's Dominik Fitz (59') only temporarily put the Viennese, who set the tone, on the road to victory. Lukas Fridrikas also equalized with a penalty (77'). After three rounds, both teams are still without a win.
According to Lustenau goalkeeper Schierl, the penalty should not have been awarded to Vienna Austria and therefore lashed out after the match. "I'm really pissed off about the referee's decision. That we've been hit again. I'm now sick to my stomach. We are disadvantaged every time," he fumed on Sky.
"So many things happened that were a scandal"
"Then he gives such a penalty that the Austria Wien players even laugh themselves. Everyone said: That's a scandal. I'm lost for words," raged Schierl, who added: "Thank God we still deserved the draw. But when they get another penalty like that, even though there's a VAR... Since we've been in the Bundesliga, so many things have happened that were scandalous. Today was the icing on the cake. I'm lost for words."
In his opinion, Austria Lustenau has been disadvantaged several times this season. "Apparently we're too small, they just swallow it. It tears me up inside. Even if everyone is against us, we can still do it," said Schierl.
Lustenau coach Andreas Heraf took it more calmly: "I'm extremely proud of the boys. We always have to leave the church in the village, we know that we are a team that doesn't find it easy to score points."
"That's sad"
His team's goal prevention has "improved a lot, but of course we have problems scoring goals. Today we scored one that would normally have been enough if you don't get a penalty, which is a completely wrong decision. It's sad that the two big Viennese clubs need penalties against us, neither of which were penalties."
Austria Lustenau remain bottom of the table, five points behind WSG Tirol.
