Popular Liliputbahn derailed in the Vienna Prater
A rather unusual accident occurred in Vienna's Prater on Sunday. The well-known Liliputbahn train suddenly derailed during a ride. The company suspects an act of sabotage behind the incident and has filed charges against unknown persons.
The derailment at around 11.15 a.m. caused the train to lean significantly. An attentive "Krone" reader reporter had observed the accident and captured it on photos.
Operation with a crane
"We saw the Liliputbahn train pass us shortly beforehand. The people all got off and walked on." The pictures show a crane being used to bring the Liliputbahn back onto the tracks after the accident.
No injuries
According to eyewitnesses, the passengers got out of the carriages on their own. Fortunately, there were no injuries. The police are currently investigating the cause of the accident. A possible act of sabotage has not been ruled out.
Stones and pieces of metal discovered
Employees discovered strange objects at the scene of the accident - the track system that runs behind the well-known Luftburg restaurant, a much frequented section of the Prater. "We found stones and several pieces of metal. I can't rule out the possibility that these objects were placed on the tracks. It could be an act of sabotage," said Philipp Pertl, spokesman for the operating company "Lilis Welt".
