“Robbed”: United fans rage after this scene

Was the foul on Liverpool's Harvey Elliott really worthy of a penalty?

It was a game-changing scene! And these slow-motion images have Manchester United fans fuming. Liverpool's Salah equalized with a penalty in the 84th minute after a foul on Harvey Elliott. But should the penalty have been given at all? United fans raged and spoke of being "robbed".

Elliott was brought down in the penalty area in the closing stages due to an alleged foul by United defender Aaron Wan-Bissaka. Referee Anthony Taylor immediately pointed to the spot. And Liverpool star Mohamed Salah held his nerve, converting to make it 2:2.

After the game, pictures and videos circulated on social media showing that the decision was not as clear-cut as initially assumed. Wan-Bissaka's legs are said not to have touched Elliott at all. Was this the 21-year-old Liverpool pro's "Swallow of the Year"? ...

Reason enough for United fans to express their anger online. Another day, another robbery," wrote one user on X. Another user agreed with him: "We've been robbed!" Or: "If this is a penalty, I'm deleting my account. We get robbed by the VAR every week."

"Like a defeat"
Liverpool were probably pretty lucky to have earned a point in Manchester. "It feels like a defeat, we had so many chances," said Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk, who was not satisfied. His coach took a more nuanced view. "We should have won the game. But as far as I'm concerned, we now have one point more than before," said Klopp.
