Five euros fixed price
Student campaign ensures cheaper kebabs until July
Michael Griesser (17) started an initiative in Klagenfurt to combat high prices and inflation. His first success: from Wednesday, schoolchildren will be able to buy kebabs for just five euros across the board.
Whether in the student council, on the youth council in Klagenfurt or - as now - on his own initiative: 17-year-old Michael Griesser is dedicated to working for young people! "I asked people around me what could be improved for young people," the committed Klagenfurt resident tells the "Krone" newspaper.
First project against inflation
And because the rise in kebab prices was repeatedly brought up as a striking example of inflation, which is also affecting young Carinthians in particular, Griesser thought of something: "I founded the Education Network Carinthia (ENC) association, which is celebrating its launch with its first project," explains the HTL pupil, who is also studying as an associate student at Klagenfurt University, and presents the "Kebab Pact 2024" in the same breath.
Many people are upset about kebab prices. The underlying problem is high inflation!

24 stores join in
On his own initiative, he visited all kebab stores in Klagenfurt and negotiated a fixed kebab price of five euros for schoolchildren with the operators: "The initiative starts next Wednesday. The price is guaranteed until the end of this school year - i.e. until July 10," says Griesser, who is delighted that 24 out of a total of 27 kebab stores are on board with this idea so far.
"Even if the youth representatives in Carinthia are not always accessible to everyone, work is going on behind the scenes, which becomes visible to the outside world through projects like this!" For many pupils, the kebab is a practical lunchtime snack during free periods. The members of the "Döner-Pakt" can be recognized by the posters and certificates on display.
