Fatal shot:
Baldwin had “no control” over himself
In the case of Hollywood star Alec Baldwin's fatal shooting of a camerawoman while filming the western "Rust", possible lines of argument from the public prosecutor's office have become known. This could be a real problem for Baldwin. His behavior was already uncontrolled and "a safety risk" before the shooting.
A court document published on Monday (local time) states that the actor, who is accused of involuntary manslaughter and has denied responsibility, had "no control" over himself on set.
Baldwin was screaming
"Mr. Baldwin frequently yelled and swore at himself, crew members or no one for no particular reason," wrote prosecutor Kari Morrissey.
"To observe Mr. Baldwin's behavior on the set of 'Rust' is to witness a man who has absolutely no control over his own emotions and absolutely no concern for how his behavior affects those around him." Witnesses had testified that "this very behavior contributed to safety issues on set".
Constant contradictions
Morrissey wrote that Baldwin had repeatedly contradicted himself in interviews and media appearances regarding the shooting. "Every time Mr. Baldwin spoke, a different version of events came out of his mouth, and his later statements contradicted his earlier statements."
Baldwin was charged in January in the case of the fatal shooting of camerawoman Halyna Hutchins during the filming of the low-budget western "Rust" in October 2021. The 65-year-old has pleaded not guilty. If found guilty, he faces a prison sentence of up to 18 months.
Camerawoman shot during rehearsal
The actor accidentally shot Hutchins with a revolver during a filming rehearsal in October 2021. Director Joel Souza was seriously injured by the same bullet. The gun had been loaded with a real bullet. The case shook Hollywood and sparked a debate about safety when shooting with guns.
In the case, the gun master on set, Hannah Gutierrez-Reed, was also charged with involuntary manslaughter and found guilty last month. Sentencing is expected to be determined next week.
