Exciting statements from national coach Julian Nagelsmann at the meeting of European Championship coaches in Düsseldorf. "There are players who like to come to us when things aren't going well at the club. That could be the case at FC Bayern right now," said the 36-year-old about his former club.

No wonder, after two bitter defeats in the league (against Dortmund and Bochum), frustration is high among some Bayern stars. What's more, Bayer Leverkusen will in all likelihood be the new champions of the German Bundesliga for the first time since 2012. The only thing left for Bayern to finish the season on a reasonably positive note is the Champions League title. A mammoth task! Bayern have to face Arsenal FC in the quarter-final first leg on Tuesday (today).

"Evaluate the individual players"
Nagelsmann continued: "There are also players who take the momentum from the club with them. I generally don't assess the sporting situation of the clubs, but that of the individual players. Of course, one is dependent on the other, you can see that at VfB."

Nevertheless, Bayern games play a special role in the national team. "The Bayern players are all very experienced and can separate well when things aren't going well at the club. Nevertheless, they have a quality that will help us in the national team," said Nagelsmann.

Rudi Völler has extended his contract as sports director at the DFB beyond the 2026 World Cup. A sign for Nagelsmann to continue on his path? "The situation is the same as I said very transparently recently. There's nothing new to report. Rudi had to make his decision for himself, I'm not telling him what to do and he's not telling me what to do. [...] I'm happy for the DFB and German soccer. Everything else will be seen in the coming weeks."

Germany will play test matches against Ukraine on June 3 (8:45 p.m.) and Greece on June 7 (8:45 p.m.) immediately before the home European Championship.
