After warning for Tyrol
Road traffic spared the onset of winter
The forecast cold front arrived and winter also made a comeback in Tyrol after the recent hot days - at least at higher (valley) altitudes. Road traffic in the province was largely spared from the fresh snow. "Everything has gone smoothly so far", both the provincial traffic department and Asfinag told the "Krone" in the morning.
A look at the state's webcams shows: The vast majority of roads are "black". At higher altitudes, such as in the Sellrain Valley, along the Arlberg Pass or the Pass Thurn road, it is white. But even here, the roads are largely free of snow. Partly thanks to the snow clearing services. Status: early morning.
"There have been no problems so far"
No obstructions to road traffic due to the snow were reported in Tyrol on Wednesday morning. And the police also said in response to an inquiry from "Krone": "There have been no problems so far. Traffic is flowing."
Asfinag was on alert
Due to the snow weather warning issued by GeoSphere Austria and the state, Asfinag also prepared for a heavy onset of winter - especially on the Brenner freeway. There, the responsible highway maintenance department ran a full operation with more than 20 vehicles and all the necessary preparations.
In the end, there were no problems at all due to the snow. Neither at night nor in the morning.
Asfinag-Sprecher Alexander Holzedl
"This was done in coordination with the state and the police," explains Asfinag spokesman Alexander Holzedl: "Ultimately, however, there were no problems at all due to the snow. Neither at night nor in the morning."

Weather calms down on Thursday
What's next for the weather in Tirol? "Behind the cold front, it will remain unsettled throughout Tirol with dense clouds and rain, some of which will still be heavy on the main ridge and in East Tirol on Wednesday morning. Snow will fall from 1000 to 1400 meters in North Tyrol and above 1200 to 1600 meters in East Tyrol," according to GeoSphere Austria. In the course of the afternoon and towards the evening, the precipitation should become less frequent or subside.
The weather should then calm down again from Thursday. High fog in the valleys should recede during the morning. "It will be sunny, often even cloudless." Friday and the weekend are also set to be sunny.
