After cancer diagnosis
Kate breaks royal tradition with her thank you card
Princess Kate moved many to tears with her cancer confession. Now the 42-year-old has written a personal letter to thank everyone for the many get-well wishes that have arrived from all over the world. And broke with royal tradition.
At the end of March, Princess Kate explained in a video: "I have cancer!" The wife of Prince William, who underwent preventative chemotherapy following her diagnosis, went on to reveal that the diagnosis had come as a huge shock.
Kate thanked everyone for their get-well wishes
But the news was not only a shock for Kate and her family. Royal fans around the world also sympathized with the Princess of Wales and sent get-well wishes to Kensington Palace. Numerous wishes also arrived at the beginning of the year after it became known that the 42-year-old had to undergo abdominal surgery.
Kate has now expressed her gratitude for the many kind words, as royal fans revealed on X (formerly Twitter). Some of them also posted photos of Kate's card.
"Thank you for your good wishes to Her Royal Highness The Princess of Wales," the letter read. It continued: "We very much appreciate the thoughtful gesture."
Breaking with royal tradition
A lovely gesture for so much positive encouragement - and quite an unusual one. Because Princess Kate broke with royal tradition with her thank-you card. Normally, the palace only sends cards to its citizens on special occasions such as birthdays or Christmas.
Furthermore, Kate's letter is simply a white sheet with two sentences and the emblem of the royal family. In this case, the Princess of Wales did not include a photo, like the family photos that Kate and William enclose with their Christmas cards every year.
Charles "moved to tears"
King Charles, who is also suffering from cancer, has also received numerous messages from his subjects. A few weeks ago, he responded by having himself photographed reading the get-well wishes.
In an interview with British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak at the end of February, Charles also revealed that he had been "moved to tears" by receiving so many well wishes.
Kate focuses on recovery
While the British monarch had already made a public appearance again at the Easter service at Windsor Castle, it is still unclear when his daughter-in-law Kate will be able to resume her royal duties. At the beginning of the year, it was said that the wife of the heir to the throne would return to public life after Easter. However, the cancer diagnosis has changed a lot in this regard.
"We hope you will understand that as a family we now need some time, space and privacy while I complete my treatment," Kate said in her video. She has always enjoyed her work and is looking forward to being back when she can. For now, however, she needs to focus on getting back to full health.
