Mowing? Tyrolean (65) torches acquaintance’s lawn

Apparently well-intentioned, but poorly executed: Instead of mowing the lawn in a friend's garden, a 65-year-old man in Telfs, Tyrol, is said to have simply set fire to the greenery. In the end, a lawn measuring almost 60 square meters caught fire. The police and fire department arrived.

He will probably not be asking this acquaintance for a favor any time soon. On Tuesday afternoon, the property owner asked the 65-year-old local man to mow his lawn while he was away. "When the man returned to his property, he noticed that the 65-year-old had set fire to the lawn in the meantime and heavy smoke was developing," reported the police.

In the end, an area of around 40 to 60 square meters was on fire in the garden. The suspected arsonist left the scene before the police arrived. "However, he was found not far away and confronted", the investigators continued.

He told the police that he had deliberately set fire to the lawn, as this had been done in the past so that the grass would grow back better.

The fire was ultimately extinguished quickly. The alerted fire department, which arrived with around 20 members, then carried out extinguishing work.
