Lawyer reveals:
Fritzl renounces food from “goulash murderer”
Highly dangerous criminals are behind bars at Stein prison in Krems an der Donau. In addition to Josef Fritzl, Alfred U. - also known as the "Goulash Murderer" - is also among the inmates. In an interview with "Krone", top lawyer Astrid Wagner reveals the relationship between the two inmates and why Fritzl won't touch Alfred's food.
"You have to imagine it like a shared flat," says Wagner, describing the life of the two felons in Stein prison. Both men are represented by the lawyer.
Life sentences for both men
Fritzl (88), who held his own daughter captive in the cellar in Amstetten for 24 years and fathered children with her. Alfred U. (69), who killed a sex worker, dismembered her body and then prepared a goulash from part of the corpse. Both were sentenced to life imprisonment and also - because they are dangerous - placed in a forensic therapy center. So they have had many years to get to know each other and will probably continue to do so in the future. Only a few weeks ago, the transfer of Josef Fritzl to a normal prison was rejected by the Supreme Court.
"Goulash murderer" is a passionate cook
During his time behind bars, Alfred U. in particular, as Wagner reveals, pursued his passion as a hobby cook and would use the money he earned as an employee in the print shop to buy food and prepare a wide variety of dishes.
The 69-year-old has also published cookbooks. "He is a gourmet and also cooks for his fellow inmates," the top lawyer told the Krone.
He knows exactly what he has made. That's why he doesn't necessarily want to eat what he cooks.

One of the inmates, however, does not want to taste any of the food: Josef Fritzl. "He knows exactly what he's done. That's why he doesn't necessarily want to eat what he cooks," explains the lawyer. This usually involves schnitzel or fish. The 88-year-old is also very body-conscious. "It's all just too unhealthy for him."
However, the two are not enemies. The 88-year-old was simply very skeptical of other men and didn't really cultivate friendships, as Wagner had already described in her book "Die Abgründe des Josef F.".
Preparing goulash from parts of the corpse
As a reminder: In 2018, Alfred U. strangled and dismembered a secret prostitute (28) in Vienna and dumped the body parts in Lake Neusiedl. The man with a long criminal record was sentenced to life imprisonment for manslaughter, rape and fornication and committed to an institution for mentally disturbed criminals. The accused - who himself expects to die in prison - had described in court how he had prepared a goulash from part of the corpse.
Top lawyer represents numerous serious criminals
Astrid Wagner, who represents both Fritzl and the "goulash murderer", is currently also the lawyer for the mother who was suspected of having severely abused her son and locked him in a dog crate. Or the 35-year-old man who allegedly killed his ex-partner with a shot to the head in front of their nine-year-old daughter.
