Farmers dispossessed
Garlic and lettuce against bypass
The Wiener Neustadt eastern bypass is to cross fertile farmland. Seven farmers do not want to give up their land for it. They have now received expropriation notices. Meanwhile, activists are planting crunchy vegetables on the disputed fields.
"Garlic, lettuce and carrots are already growing," reports Robin. He is working with other road construction opponents in a foil tunnel in a field near Lichtenwörth. This is exactly where the route for the Wiener Neustadt eastern bypass is to run.
Asphalt instead of food?
Seven farmers are fighting the road across their fields. So far in vain. Now they have been served with expropriation notices. Organic farmer Hans Gribitz is also concerned: "How can the ÖVP/FPÖ coalition decide in favor of asphalt rather than food?"
The expropriation notices continue to ignore the objections raised against the eastern bypass.

Fight against expropriation
Wolfram Proksch, lawyer for the farmers, argues that "the supposed public interest in the road project, which is over 50 years old, has never been comprehensively examined". He announces that he will fight the expropriation notices: "If necessary, all the way to the Constitutional Court!"
Faster to the hospital
The city argues that the bypass would improve the quality of life in Wiener Neustadt because it would relieve pressure on existing main traffic routes and would also enable faster emergency transports to the future hospital.
