"Infernal pain"
“Hellish pain” after leg lengthening
"GNTM" star Theresia Fischer can currently be seen on the TV show "Battle of the Reality Stars". However, her participation was in doubt due to complications following her leg lengthening surgery.
As a result of the procedure, the former "Germany's Next Topmodel" contestant is now 14 centimeters taller. But the leg lengthening, which she would no longer have today, was not without complications: As a result of the operations, Theresia Fischer suffered two bone infections.
Participation in reality show on the brink
And even before her participation in the show "Kampf der Realitystars", which started on RTL Zwei on Wednesday, she again had extremely painful problems, as the 32-year-old revealed to "Bunte".
"I had periostitis. I had hellish pain in my lower left leg," explained Fischer. She had already developed symptoms months ago - even while filming the Amazon Prime series "The 50".
"The periostitis was caused by the fact that I had so many operations - five on my left leg. At this point, where the screws are still in and the skin is so thin and stretched, there is always friction and it can't heal properly."
"An eternal ordeal"
During her participation in "The 50", she "kept her head above water" with painkillers. Then there was the medical check-up before "Battle of the Reality Stars". "The blood values, the ECG - everything was great. Because of the pain in my leg, I then had lots of examinations, including an MRI."
"It was an eternal ordeal", but she tried everything to be fit for the start of filming for the reality show. Her boyfriend, dentist Stefan, who is 26 years older than her, was the main one to talk her into it. "You only have this body once," he explained to her and said that there was no point in pushing through this job at all costs.
"I took that seriously and listened to him," Fischer explained. She then deliberately avoided putting strain on her shin. "And that paid off in the end," she said happily.
Restrictions due to leg lengthening
Nevertheless, she feels the restrictions that her leg extension brings with it particularly strongly when competing in "Battle of the Reality Stars". Especially during fast-paced games, "when I had to run a bit or be faster - it's just strange running with metal in your legs." While a bone can absorb a shock, that doesn't work for me "because these metal rods are in the bone. With every step you take, you notice that there is no cushioning in the whole body."
In addition, a screw in her lower right leg "has come loose, it's sticking out and pressing under the skin." During the filming of the reality show, it "came out particularly often", which is why she had to be careful, says Fischer.
Calf bones do not grow together
The ex-"GNTM" contestant also has to contend with another consequence of her leg lengthening. Her split fibula bones are not growing together as planned - and will never grow together again. A diagnosis that was recently confirmed.
Her doctor explained to her "that it's not such a nice situation, of course". Because "the problem is that there was an incredibly large lengthening. The fibula was only fixed to the tibia with two screws and not with a telescopic rod. As a result, the tibia is now carrying the entire load."
"Would like to finally let go"
It's "a strange feeling" to have to live with the knowledge that "I've had two split fibula bones all my life", Fischer admitted. After all, everything in the tibia has ossified as planned, which is why the metal rods in the lower legs are to be removed this year. "And I'm really happy about that. I finally want to let go."
Above all because it will also give her a little more closure with her ex-husband, whom she accuses of encouraging her to have her legs lengthened. "I'm longing for that day when these rods finally come out and I can really say that the last two percent of my ex is out of my body - that's it. One percent left, one percent right. Out."
The new season of "Kampf der Realitystars" can be seen every Wednesday at 8:15 pm on RTL Zwei.
