Visit to the stadium
William and George treat themselves to a break from worries
It's no longer a secret that Prince William and Prince George share a passion for soccer. Now dad and son treated themselves to a little break from worrying about Princess Kate and attended an Aston Villa v Lille game together.
It's not an easy time for Prince William and Princess Kate's family, as the 42-year-old revealed in her video shortly before the start of the Easter break. It had taken time to explain to her children George, Charlotte and Louis that their mother had cancer, but also "to reassure them that I will be fine".
George was feverish with Aston Villa
All the more heartwarming are the scenes that unfolded on Thursday at the game between Aston Villa and Lille in the Europa Conference League. Almost unnoticed, William and his eldest, Prince George, enjoyed a little break from their worries and cheered on Aston Villa, the mini-prince's favorite club.
This is shown not only by photos published by the Daily Mail and others, which can be seen in the video above, but also by short video clips from the television broadcast, which fans shared on X (formerly Twitter).
One fan caught Prince William and Prince George, who proudly wore a British soccer club fan scarf around his shoulders, leaving the stadium after the match. The royal duo had traveled to Birmingham especially for the match, which ended in victory for their favourite team, much to George's delight.
Time out with the family
The soccer match is Prince William's first more or less public appearance since Kate made her cancer diagnosis public. According to British media reports, the heir to the throne and his family are to spend the Easter vacations, which last until April 17 for the mini-royals, at the Anmer Hall country estate in Norfolk. William, Kate and the children were absent from this year's Easter service at Windsor Castle, which the Royal Family traditionally celebrates together.
Together with his mother-in-law Carole Middleton, William is said to have been spotted visiting a pub in Norfolk last weekend. "It was all very low-key, no fuss," a regular told the Daily Mail. "He just walked in and through the pub. He seemed to be out with Carole Middleton."
Kate is taking time to get well
British media speculate that Prince William will end his family break at the end of the Easter vacations and resume his royal duties. It is not yet known when Kate will return to the public eye.
In her video message, the Princess of Wales explained: "We hope you will understand that as a family we now need some time, space and privacy while I complete my treatment." She has always enjoyed her work and is looking forward to being back when she can. For now, however, she needs to focus on getting back to full health.
