Dress rehearsal a success! FC Bayern won 2-0 against 1. FC Köln thanks to Raphael Guerreiro and Thomas Müller ahead of the Champions League round of 16 second leg against Arsenal on Saturday. Meanwhile, Dortmund won the Borussia duel with Mönchengladbach 2-1. Marcel Sabitzer scored twice, Maximilian Wöber's follow-up goal ultimately went unrewarded.

There was a red-white-red goal gala in the 29th round of the German Bundesliga on Saturday. Marcel Sabitzer fired Dortmund to a 2-1 victory in the Borussia duel in Mönchengladbach with a brace, while his compatriot Maximilian Wöber scored the goal for Gladbach. Phillipp Mwene and Karim Onisiwo scored once each in Mainz's 4-1 win over Hoffenheim. FC Bayern Munich recorded a 2-0 labor victory against Cologne.

Sabitzer scores worth seeing
In Mönchengladbach, the Austrian legionnaires made their presence felt early on. Sabitzer struck first with a powerful left-footed shot to give the visitors from Dortmund the lead (22') and followed up six minutes later with a penalty from the spot. Wöber provided the answer at the other end, scoring the equalizer with his head after a corner (36').

In the second half, Sabitzer scored again from the penalty spot (50'), but the spot-kick was conceded by the VAR as Gladbach keeper Jonas Omlin had played the ball first before clearing Karim Adeyemi in the penalty area. The ex-Salzburg striker was shown a yellow card shortly afterwards for a foul on ÖFB winger Stefan Lainer (55'). Dortmund then defended their narrow lead and remain fifth behind RB Leipzig on 56 points.

Second defeat in the third game for Hasenhüttl
The Saxons defeated VfL Wolfsburg 3-0 with Dani Olmo (13'), Benjamin Sesko (68') and Lois Openda securing three points for coach Marco Rose's side after Xaver Schlager's assist. Schlager was substituted for Nicolas Seiwald after 75 minutes. Leipzig's third ÖFB man, Christoph Baumgartner, was also allowed to play the final quarter of an hour. It was Wolfsburg coach Ralph Hasenhüttl's second defeat in his third game in charge, with Pavao Pervan in goal for VfL.

Record champions Bayern Munich needed goals from Raphael Guerreiro (65') and Thomas Müller (93') to collect three points against Cologne. The downer was a serious injury to attacking player Kingsley Coman. Konrad Laimer came on for Munich after 79 minutes, while Dejan Ljubicic came on for Cologne and Florian Kainz played 54 minutes. Bayern are in second place with 63 points, while Bayer Leverkusen can secure their first championship with a win against Bremen on Sunday.

Game turned around
Meanwhile, Cologne's Billy Goats, in second-last place with 22 points, are already four points behind the relegation places. This is held by Mainz, who celebrated an important victory against Hoffenheim in the relegation battle. Mainz turned a 1-0 deficit at the break into a 4-1 win with a furious second half. Mwene got himself on the scoresheet with a deflected shot from distance (51'), as did substitute Onisiwo (88'), who beat Hoffenheim's ÖFB colleague Florian Grillitsch in a duel.

Bochum, who drew 1-1 with Heidenheim under new coach Heiko Butscher, are just one point ahead of Mainz. Kevin Stöger set up Keven Schlotterbeck's late equalizer (90') from a corner kick. Schlotterbeck had also demonstrated his threat in front of his own goal nine minutes earlier, putting the visitors from Heidenheim ahead with an own goal.
