One after the other: It's Dorothea Wierer, four-time biathlon world champion and one of the greatest in the history of the sport. She obviously doesn't want to know anything about snow, skis and full-body gear after the season. Instead, she is enjoying her beach vacation to the fullest, as Instagram suggests.

Moderate season
Why the question about the possible retirement? For several reasons. Firstly, the now 34-year-old from South Tyrol can look back on a season that was, shall we say, mediocre at best. 40th place in the overall World Cup, that was as good as it got. A place to forget for the grand champion of this sport. She missed out on a medal at the World Championships in . A record of success looks different, especially for an athlete of her caliber.

No confession
Four times gold, five times silver, three times bronze - that is Wierer's record at the World Championships. Her most recent gold medal came at her home World Championships in Antholz, South Tyrol, in 2020. Originally, that should have been the end of her career. But the glow of honor was there and the prospect of the 2026 home Olympics in Milan and Cortina was appealing. So she carried on. And ultimately delivered two unsatisfactory seasons. And since then, there has been no clear commitment to continuing her career. Yes, the 2026 Olympics are still appealing: "But that will take another two years," she moaned after the end of the season. For now, she will take a vacation. At least she has already kept this promise.
