Matthias Braunöder recently earned himself a starting place at Como. After three wins in a row, he will face Bari in Serie B on Saturday. Austria's U21 captain is still waiting for his first goal. Promotion to Italy's elite league is in their own hands.

His start was certainly not easy, in February he sat on the substitutes' bench three times in a row without making an appearance, then often only made it onto the pitch in the final stages and only collected a total of 72 minutes. A thing of the past! Things have been going really well for Matthias Braunöder in Italy since mid-March.

The "six-man", who went on loan from Austria to Serie B side Como at the end of January (secured an option to buy in the summer), played in the last three games, winning three of them. The 22-year-old also contributed his first assist in the 2-0 win against South Tyrol. "I worked very hard for this. The joy was of course huge. I had to get in line at the beginning, but that was clear to me. Now I've finally fully arrived here," beams Austria's U21 team captain.

"Want the crowning glory with the exit"
There has already been praise from coaches and teammates, and with Braunöder in the starting eleven, they are still on course for Serie A. With six rounds to go, Como are in second place with 61 points, which would mean direct promotion to the Italian top flight. "We now have it in our own hands and want to crown it with promotion. The quality in the team is very good. Nobody is letting up, you can really feel that," says the blonde. However, he still has fond memories of his starting debut, and not just because of the 3:1 win against Pisa. "I realized then that I hadn't played a 90-minute game for a while. Fortunately, I didn't suffer from sore muscles, but heavy legs were inevitable." Como face Bari at home on Saturday, and Braunöder has another goal in his sights as he soars. "My first goal of the season would certainly be a bonus!"
