Second League
Third defeat of the season: GAK lose to Liefering
GAK suffered only their third defeat of the season at the start of the 23rd round of the 2nd Football League. The superior league leaders were beaten 2-0 by FC Liefering at the Red Bull Arena on Friday evening. Previously, only SV Lafnitz (4:1 at home) and FAC (3:1 away) had managed to snatch three points against the Athletics. The lead over DSV Leoben, the new frontrunners, shrank to eleven points as the Styrians won 2-0 at FAC.
Moussa Kounfolo Yeo shocked GAK with his goal in the 38th minute. The 19-year-old midfielder from Mali was followed by Luka Reischl (57). Salzburg's home win in Wals-Siezenheim can be considered well deserved, as they celebrated their third win in a row. Graz, on the other hand, dropped points for the second time in a row after a 1-1 draw in their Styrian clash with Leoben.
Leoben took the bad news of being denied a license for next season in their stride on the pitch. Moritz Heinrich (27) and the Bundesliga-tested striker Kevin Friesenbichler (44) made everything clear before the break. The DSV team, coached once again by Carsten Jancker, overtook Rieder, who were previously level on points and will not host Bregenz until Saturday.
Setback for St. Pölten
St. Pölten suffered another setback in the prestigious duel with Admira. This was initiated by a headed own goal by Christian Ramsebner (45'). After the break, Admira's Salko Mujanovic (67') and Filip Ristanic (80') made it 3-0. Südstädter continued their upward trend with their fifth unbeaten game in a row, which included four wins. As a reward, they have risen to become Lower Austria's number one, with the new fifth-placed side having two more points than their sixth-placed rivals, who left the pitch with their heads hanging down after the 7-3 defeat at Vienna.
Three sending-offs for the visitors
The Döblingen side conceded a 1-0 defeat in Dornbirn in a bizarre match. Jürgen Bauer (43rd), Anes Omerovic (65th/red) and Kelvin Boateng (92nd/yellow-red) were sent off for three of the visitors' players. The unlicensed Vorarlberg side ended the game with a decimated squad after Mateus Jesus (87') was shown red, but their fourth win in a row was no longer in danger in the closing stages. Kapfenberger SV prevailed 3:1 against neighbors SV Stripfing, who are still without a license for 2024/25.
