Cable car cabin crashes near Antalya
The cabin of a cable car has crashed in the southern Turkish city of Antalya (see video above). One person was killed and ten others were injured. According to the health minister, a total of almost 200 people were temporarily trapped.
According to the state news agency Anadolu, the cable car was particularly busy due to the sugar festival at the end of the fasting month of Ramadan. One of the masts of the cable car had fallen over, a cabin had hit it and crashed into rocky terrain. Pictures show the cabin without a floor. The fire department, police and rescue services were deployed.
One person was killed in the accident and ten people were injured. Although they are in hospital, they are not seriously injured, the Turkish Minister of Health, Fahrettin Koca, announced on Platform X late on Friday evening. 184 people were temporarily trapped.

Basket roped down to cabins
To free them, a basket was roped down from a helicopter and brought to the cabins. No details were initially given as to the cause of the accident.
According to the operator, the cable car has been in operation since 2017 and consists of 36 cabins. It transports its guests to the summit of Tünektepe at a height of 605 meters. The journey takes around nine minutes and there is room for six people per cabin. Antalya is a popular destination for tourists.
