Dominic Thiem meets qualifier in Munich
Dominic Thiem, who has now also made it into the main draw without a wildcard, will face a qualifier at the ATP250 tournament in Munich. This was the result of the draw for the clay court tournament with prize money of 651,865 euros. Should the former world number three prevail, he will face the US American Taylor Fritz, seeded number three.
Jurij Rodionov, who narrowly lost 6-4, 3-6, 6-7(3) to Swiss player Leandro Riedi in the semi-finals of the Madrid Challenger on Saturday, is also in the main draw. The Lower Austrian will play against Australian Aleksandar Vukic in the first round for the third time in total. Both have one win each at Challenger level so far. Thiem hopes for second win of the season on the ATP Tour
Thiem is hoping for his second win this year in a match on the ATP Tour in Munich. He has only managed this in Estoril so far, last week he failed in the first qualifying round in Monte Carlo. The former US Open winner is competing in Bavaria for the fourth time, with the 2016 final being his most outstanding result there. Rodionov is competing in the main event in Munich for the first time.
Meanwhile, Austria's number one is in action at the ATP500 tournament in Barcelona. The draw on Saturday afternoon produced a feasible first round draw for Sebastian Ofner with the Russian Pavel Kotov (ATP-69th), even though Ofner has lost one match in the two duels so far (2022). If Ofner prevails, he will once again face Stefanos Tsitsipas, the event's number five.
