Beer and coke allowed
Sepp is simply a funny and jovial guy
Despite his great successes, golf pro Sepp Straka has not changed at all as a person. A beer is part of a barbecue and a can of Coke is also allowed on the course. His former coach Claude Grenier is experiencing this at first hand at the US Masters in Augusta.
Sepp Straka's very likeable wife Paige once said: "Some days golf isn't much fun. Some days it's the coolest thing in the world. No matter how Sepp is doing. 20 minutes after the round, everything is processed and he is the most relaxed person you can imagine. I really like that about him." I can only confirm that. Despite the extremely strenuous rounds at the US Masters in the evening, Sepp is the fun and jovial guy he has always been.
Family life is the best balance for Sepp
A beer is a must at the barbecue. A can of Coca Cola light is also allowed on the course. The best balance for Sepp to the stress of competition at Augusta National Golf Club (he described his 71 on Friday after more than five hours in extremely gusty winds as one of the best rounds of his career so far) is normal family life. He really enjoys that. I also love the evenings at Augusta. All the Strakas are wonderful people.
Caddie as "photo bomber"
Sepp's twin brother Sam was once my pupil too. I've always been on the same wavelength as my mom Mary and dad Peter. His caddie Duane Bock is also part of the family, although the two have only been working together since July 2023.
The chemistry between them is perfect. They laugh a lot. When Sepp took a picture with friends on the course, Duane played the "photo bomber" in the background. But as a top professional, Bock has played his part in ensuring that Sepp is once again on course for a top 20 finish after three rounds, and that his third top 10 result at a major is still possible. He also showed good mental strength on Saturday, when he initially made up for an early setback with two bogeys on holes 3 and 4 before ending up two over par.
But other prominent golfers fared far worse on the third day in Augusta. First and foremost Tiger Woods, who played the worst nine holes of his career at the Masters, ultimately finishing the round 10 (!) strokes over par. In contrast to Sepp, the superstar no longer has a chance of a top place on Sunday.
