Hahntennjoch road likely to be open to traffic from the beginning of May

The traffic connection between the Imst district and the Außerferner Lechtal valley via the Hahntennjoch should be open to traffic again at the beginning of May. Snow clearing and rock clearance work on the popular pass road has been in full swing for three weeks.

Around 1000 vertical meters, gradients of up to 19 percent and a maximum altitude of 1894 meters - these are the figures for the winding pass road. The route over the Hahntennjoch road is particularly popular with cyclists and bikers.

However, the road is closed due to the risk of avalanches. For a few weeks now, however, the necessary work has been in full swing to open the road to traffic. The avalanche commission opened the first sections around three weeks ago. Since then, snow clearing, rock clearance work and various repairs have been on the agenda.

Weather-related influences and restrictions on the work can of course not be predicted.

If everything goes according to plan, the road should be open to traffic again at the beginning of May. "Weather-related influences and restrictions on the work cannot be predicted, of course," explains LHStv. Josef Geisler about the further plans of the Zams road maintenance department and the specialist companies commissioned.

"The work from Imst to the Maldonalm has currently been approved by the Imst Avalanche Commission. We will have to wait and see how the avalanche situation develops up to the top of the pass - safety always has top priority," explains Bernd Stigger, Head of the Imst Construction District Office. Rock clearance work is currently being carried out by a specialist company. Trees also have to be removed along the road to ensure the greatest possible safety for all road users.
