Baby Gloria urgently needs healthy stem cells
Baby Gloria from East Tyrol urgently needs a life-saving stem cell donation. Anyone who wants to help can take part in the typing campaign at the Altstadthotel Eck in Lienz (East Tyrol) on 12 May.
Little Gloria was born in East Tyrol in February 2024. As part of the newborn screening, which fortunately is carried out on every baby immediately after birth as standard in Austria, a severe congenital immunodeficiency was suspected. After repeating the test, this was unfortunately confirmed. Since then, little Gloria has been in isolation at the pediatric oncology department of the Innsbruck clinic. Diagnosis: SCID (severe combined immunodeficiency).
No home without a donation
The only effective treatment is a stem cell transplant. Gloria now urgently needs a life-saving stem cell donation. Until then, there is no chance that Gloria will be allowed to go home to her brother. Only one parent is allowed to stay in isolation with Gloria at a time. Visits are also not possible as the risk of infection is too great.
Typing campaign
Anyone between the ages of 17 and 45 who is in good health can be typed to perhaps save a life with a cheek swab. "Because we all deserve a chance at life," appeals stem cell donor Anna Rogl. Leukemia Aid Austria "Give for Life" invites you to a typing campaign on Sunday, 12 May from 2 to 6 pm at the Altstadthotel Eck (Hauptplatz 20) in Lienz.
Cheek swab can also be requested online
There is also the option of requesting a typing kit with cheek swab online via the homepage www.gebenfuerleben.at or you can donate money to cover the laboratory costs of 40 euros per person. Because every single typing counts.
