Had confetti with them
Last Generation interrupted Gabalier’s concert
The group Letzte Generation interrupted Andreas Gabalier's open-air concert in Ischgl on Sunday (see video above). Three people climbed onto the stage and threw confetti around. However, the protest was not directed against the artist himself, it was emphasized in a statement.
Instead, it was about the "escalating climate catastrophe." "We simply have no more time to lose and must use every opportunity to draw attention to the impending climate collapse. The government must finally act and include the fundamental right to climate protection in our constitution," said Jonas Iwen (21) in a statement from the group.
The group posted a video of the action on X. It shows three people climbing onto the stage on the Idalpe in Ischl and throwing bright confetti around. They then unpack banners. There is no more time, as security forces immediately intervene and carry the activists off the stage. At least some of the audience probably agree with this reaction. They applaud, one woman gives the climate activists the bird.
"We are not targeting fans"
"Our protest is not directed against Andreas Gabalier, his music or the fans," the Last Generation made clear in its statement on Sunday. "Age, place of residence, educational background, gender - the people at the Climate Council were just as colorful as the concertgoers today and yet they managed to work out and decide on climate protection measures - mostly unanimously, by the way (...)", physiotherapist Resa Stelzer (28) is quoted as saying. If the government didn't want to listen to the Climate Council, it wouldn't have had to convene it in the first place.
Musician Andreas Gabalier plays the "Top of the Mountain Spring Concert" in Ischgl on Sunday, starting at 1pm. The ski pass is also the ticket to the concert.
The Last Generation, a registered trademark since the end of 2023, is an association of climate activists in Germany and Austria. The campaigns began two years ago. Its goals include a speed limit of 100 kilometers per hour on freeways and a phase-out of oil, gas and coal.
